Suffocate Me [Trauma Doll Version]

Hells Gates [Jairus Miller Version 1]

I’m very pleased at how these remixes came out, all the producers involved really gave it their all and turned in some fantastic complements to the original versions of “The Perfectly Damaged”. The goal right now is to have this out by Dec/Jan, if all goes well you should see it on iTunes and Amazon along side the original album.

Polytechnic Recordings will be handing a DJ friendly release of Erphun’s remix, slated to be available on Beatport Jan/Feb of 2010. I’m also going to set up a DJ friendly release of both Visitor 7 and Android Cartel’s mixes, as the originals were too long for the 60min album release. More on that as it develops!

"Jaded" featured in new web series.

Was pleased to find out that Charles at Blue Buddah got “Jaded Reprise” from my album synced with this new series on atom.com appropriately called “Intercourse With A Vampire”.

Most people know I’m quite a horror film fan, and I’ve found the bastardization of  vampires in popular culture right now to be downright awful. These teen angst vampire love triangles are way to emo for me, and I’m glad Jacob was interested in having my song in his little spoof.

So check this out if you need a laugh this Halloween:

Updating The Cell.

The time has come. I’ve been milking my PowerMac G5 now for a good 4 year run, and it’s seen a lot of projects pass through its processors, but ever since Logic 9 was released earlier this year I knew its days were numbered. After struggling with some of the new features in Logic 9, I decided it’s time to start investigating an upgrade.

For the past three days I tore down the studio, thought it would be a good opportunity to check out the cables and connections going in and out of the rig, including the leeds to the Ensemble. Theres something quite gratifying about tearing the whole rig down just to put it back together, but maybe thats just the audio geek in me.

So with the new MacPro successfully nested in its new rig, software and plug ins installed and ready to roll, I’m excited to get back to work.

The Canyon Premiere with My Dad.

I don’t normally deviate from studio stuff, but this was too cool not to mention. My pops has a budding 2nd career now writing screenplays, and on tuesday we went to his first film’s premiere at the Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood for Scream Fest 2009. I shot this video on my iPhone 3Gs, and threw this together to give everyone a glimpse of our night. Enjoy!

More to come from the Cell, I’m currently upgrading my PowerMac G5 to a new Intel Mac Pro, will be discussing that process next!

Colin C DJ Mix For Proton Radio [11/2008]

found this today when I was going through my iTunes, a DJ set I recorded last fall for Pole Folder’s (Bedrock Records) show on Proton Radio. I had a fun time putting this together and thought I’d dust it off and put it up here.

it’s mainly a club mix, lots of rugged tech beats mixed with some of my unreleased (at the time) tracks I had been working on then. it also includes one of my favorite bootleg remixes in a while, Nosmo & Kris B’s rework of Nine Inch Nails “Ringfinger”. which by the way consequentially turns 20 years old this October (yes, thats right “Pretty Hate Machine” debuted in 89!).

heres the full tracklist:

Frontside - Bulbed Again  [Wax Trax Records]
Miami Ice - Kiezkolleg  [CDr]
JvC (Jairus Miller & Colin C) - Karmatic (Original) [Polytechnic Recordings]
Derek Howell - Hot Summer Night (Mike Hiratzka Mix)  [Polytechnic Records]
Slighter - Skeezeball [Polytechnic Recordings]
Andres Solano - Over Mist  [Quimika Records]
JvC (Jairus Miller & Colin C) - Maladjusted (Vox)  [CDr]
Jairus Miller - Poundcake  [CDr]
Nine Inch Nails - Ringfinger (Nosmo Vs. Kris B Mix)  [Bootleg]
DJ KiRA & James Warren - Trinity (Benz & MD Mix)  [Polytechnic Records]

the mp3 has been filtered down, so its quality isn’t the greatest but it streams well. if you are interested in having this mix as a download, go ahead and click HERE to download the 192kbps MP3 version from Mediafire.

remixing + virus ti + redbull.

remixing with the Virus & Logic Proremixing with the Virus & Logic Pro

was held up all Sunday working on a new remix for Kris B’s Nightshade music. had a blast coming up with some tech-y beats and fucking around with the original songs melody.

check out the vid i captured of the session:

the bass line synth is my Virus Ti, quite enjoying the new 3.0 OS and its interface, much easier to read now. I modeled the drums you hear from D16’s plug ins that recreate the 606 and the 909 styled sound, but this is still in early stages and there is much to do…

quick video blog entry, had a cool idea in the Spider Problem remix session on Sunday that I wanted to share with you all. check it out.

slighter - values [free single]

check out this preview player of a almost forgotten tune, “Values”.

recorded this back in 2006, but it sat on my drive unfinished as I decided early on to scrap this one and went with “How’d I Become So Jaded” as the album’s opener. I found it the other day, and figured I’d tool around with it in Logic 9 and see if I can finish it up as a add-on song to the album.

music + design.

so I’ve been putting a lot of hours into the new album’s pre-production, sorting out tracks and trying to find some consistency between the songs that will eventually end up being a part of the 12 song album. after some hard weeks glued to this project, I was ready to take a break and focus on some designing for the upcoming remix project’s layout.

slighter remix album cover idea

this also gives me a chance to catch up on some albums I’ve been meaning to listen to, can’t design without iTunes blaring something. gotta say the new Revolting Cocks album took me by surprise, theres always been a laughable quality from this side project of Al Jourgensen’s but I got to hand it to the man, maybe its the comfort of being in his new ‘compound’ in Texas, or the fact that Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top) is on board for this record, he’s made a brilliant LP.

other than that, I must return to some production work in the studio. Spider Problem’s got me remixing a new single from them called ‘Bullet’, and along with the ever growing list of projects that need completing I shouldn’t be slacking off for much longer. Lets not mention my new addiction to Arkham Asylum, it’s mindless yet captivating qualities are keeping me up at night.
